Game of the Week: Betrayl at the House on the Hill

betraly Betrayl

Like fright? Feel the need to control hordes of zombies or kill dracula? Want to send a house into the very pits of hell? Want to kill everyone else on the board or take down the one who betrays you? Then Betrayl at the House on the Hill is the game for you! The game that is never the same twice uses a randomly generated mansion and dice to determine which of over 50 different senarios that you will go through. Each senario is crafted to be a different experiance using many different rules and peices through the game to increase enjoyment. Picture below is the two books used primarily in the game, each one contains all 50 senarios, but each book focuses on only 1/2 of the story. Thus the betrayer may control a horde of ghosts, but the players will be given clues on how to defeat them!

Personally I have played the game about 15 times and I have yet to play the same game twice. I found it extermely fun, but it is rules heavy. Fully reading the manual and the FAQ is desired and even then it is hard to remember every small rule. Yet it is a very fun game to play and well worth the effort.

Average Play Time: 45 minutes to 2 hours

Players: 3 to 6.

Game of the Week: Tsuro

A fast paced game of survival, Tsuro challanges you to survive (and kill) in a game of chance and wits as you create you own path to eternity. The game itself is pretty fun and can offer quick enjoyment as the games tend to be rather short. The main idea behind the game is that you create paths by laying down tiles on the board. As you progress through the game the tiles begin to fill more and more of the board, increasing the chances of you creating a path to your own death or the death of others. MAGE has a copy of Tsuro in the innner office. So feel free to enjoy a turn at playing the game.

Average Play Time: 15 to 30 minutes

Number of Players: 3-8

Important Information

Welcome back to school everyone! (Or welcome to MSOE, for any freshmen reading this ;-))

The http:\\www.magegaming.org URL has been changed to http:\\www.magegaming.com. Entering this URL redirects you to the MAGE webpage located on the MSOE website. Why? The magegaming.com URL is a lot easier to remember than the MSOE address.

Our first meeting for Fall 2006 is Monday, September 11th at noon in the Student Organization Conference room (located behind the bookstore on the third floor of the CC building).

Magercon is coming September 16th from 10am to 6pm in the CC-building. There will be gaming and a Halo tournament. More information to follow!

That’s all for now. :-)

End of the School Year

I hope everyone’s having a great summer!

Thanks to everyone who attended the MAGE picnic this year. Pictures that I (JR) took during the picnic can be found in my website’s gallery. I didn’t take any photos of people whacking the piñata, but I’m sure Nick took a few pictures as well.

MAGE is aware that the http://magegaming.org/ URL is currently not working. This shall be fixed eventually (but not might be fixed until after the summer). Until then, the MAGE website can still be reached at http://www.msoe.edu/storgs/mage/.

If you’re interested in getting together with some MAGE members over the summer, check out the forums and see what we’re up to. Also be sure to see what we have planned for our future cons and upcoming MAGE events for the new school year.

Enjoy your summer. :)

Anime Page Update

I finally got around to working on the Anime Page, so now it’s been updated. Go there to find out what’s being viewed at Anime Night that week, which I’ll try to keep updated, as well as a time that each series will probably be watched at. I also linked the animes that we’re watching to AniDB so you can find out easily what they’re about and can find further information. If you want to see anything else there, post to the Anime forum.

Sorry for the long wait,

New Themes

Today, Allison and I changed the front page to a new WordPress theme, and we’ve just downloaded and installed the latest version of phpbb for the forum. The new forum theme is called “Acid Tech.” What does everyone think? We like it ^_^.

Oh, and there are a few things we need to address:

How does everyone feel about re-registering to the MAGE forums? MSOE’s FTP setup and certain database problems make it difficult for Allison and I to transfer the old users information from the old forum. So, it’d be much, much easier if everyone could just re-register. How does everyone feel about that? If you guys oppose, we can just try harder. =/
Lastly, we need to talk to the chairs about registering to the front page and giving them access to editing their respective pages. We’ll need to explain how our WordPress setup works so the chairs will know how to make updates to their pages. It’s pretty simple (anyone who’s comfortable with posting in forums will be comfortable posting in WordPress), but we just want to get all the facts straight.

Okay, that’s all we have for now. Until next time!

MAGE website: under construction!

Welcome to MSOE’s gaming, anime, sci-fi and chess club! This website is currently under construction…but should be operational soon.

Do you like the design so far…or despise it…or have some suggestions? Write a comment on this post.
