So... I got to thinking. What can MAGE do with a server blade?

Then it hit me. MAGE internet radio!

Using the SHOUTCast radio, and possibly a FM transmitter for short range communications, the MAGE area can easily use open domain music (OCRemix, old Fallout-esque tracks) and have our own radio station. Not only that, but we can also put in announcements for MAGE at each hour. So we have a way for great music to be streamed, and a way for our announcements to reach the masses.

So, great idea or greatest idea?

I like it actually. If we can get a for sure way to get it done, i don't see why not.

Well, you share the office area with the Radio Club, so why not talk to them about getting setup and started. I'm sure they'd be interested in cross-club projects, plus you can play off a friendly rivalry w/ them, as well.

Just some thoughts.

This is probably going to be SHOUTCast. I have no idea what goes into it, but I will ask radio club. Also, this is a very different part of the spectrum; this would be more WMSE's territory than theirs.

anyhow, as the event coordinator / PR Guy for the ARC, it interests me but I am not sure how much we can help. As mentioned, this is more similar to WMSE as it involves music; the ARC pretty much only operates in the ham radio bands (music is a no-no there) I can certainly lend my experience in working with servers, however much help that may be.

a radio club with freeware music eh? Well, It'd be cool as an internet station... but would i get to be a kick-ass dj?

We will see. The process we're going to follow is this:

1) Get computer
2) Get and set up SHOUTCAST
3) Get music off of OCREMIX and Archive.org
4) ???
5) Profit from glorious music

Sounds like a plan to me.

Only without the profit or we'd get put down faster than a prostitute in court.

Well, that depends if the $2 hooker is from LA or if it's off the street of Milwaukee. If it's from LA, that wouldn't be too short. But from Milwaukee, well, we'll see if that'll last walk up the stairs from the 1st floor of CC to the 3rd.
